Q&A With Megan Blyszak
How long have you been pole dancing?
Around four to five years now.
The moment you realised you loved it?
Straight away. My first class had me absolutely hooked.
Describe your pole style.
I am not naturally flexible, even with a gymnastics background, so my style is very dynamic, acrobatic, and “gymmy”. I love flips, tumbles, and adrenaline-fuelled static tricks. You’ll find more static than spin in most of my routines!
Favourite move?
Too many to pick just one, but I love pole-assisted back saults, flip-ups, and swing spin to punch fronts. Basically, anything flippy.
Tools of the trade – what can’t you live without?
I don’t use much grip, but when I do, it’s always Dry Hands. I also love my pole uggs, pretty polewear like Rarr, Indi, and Bad Kitty, and I can’t go without my iPad and iPod.
Passions outside of pole?
Yes! I run my own hip hop dance school and work full-time as a nurse. I’m also addicted to watching Dance Moms.
How does it feel competing among top pole dancers?
As I begin my transition from amateur to professional, I’m blown away by the level of talent both locally and nationally. I feel lucky and driven to keep growing because I’m constantly surrounded by incredible pole artists.
What does your training week look like?
I teach pole on Mondays and Wednesdays, train on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, see my physio weekly, and run my hip hop school on Friday nights. Weekends are for resting.
Can’t live without?
The support of my boyfriend, family, and friends. They mean everything to me.
Growing up, I wanted to be a...
A surgeon.
