If you've spent a pole class tugging your shorts back up every time you come down from an invert, you already know the frustration. The waistband folds. The legs bunch. Every style you try feels like it was designed for someone else.
Here's the thing: the shorts were the problem. Not you.
There are very specific reasons pole wear fails for thick thighs — and once you know what to look for, finding something that actually stays put and makes you feel good becomes a lot more straightforward.
Why Most Pole Shorts Fail
The problems are predictable, so let's name them:
Rolling waistbands. When your thighs pull more fabric downward than the waistband can hold, the short folds. Thin elastic without real structure is the first culprit. Mid-waist styles that sit at the widest part of the hip are especially prone to this.
Leg bunching. A narrow leg opening pushes fabric inward every time you move. You end up with an uncomfortable wedge of fabric bunching at the inner thigh, and you're thinking about that instead of whatever you're supposed to be doing on the pole.
Thigh pressure that builds. Fabric with poor recovery stretches out across a session. A short that felt okay at the start of class is cutting into your thigh by the end. Fabric that has real snap comes back to where it started.
Right in the waist, wrong in the thigh. This is the most common sizing trap. You order your usual size, the waist fits, but the leg opening is too narrow. Once you're in, you're committed to an uncomfortable session.
None of these are body problems. They're design and fit problems — and they're completely fixable.
What to Look For
A curved or flared leg opening
The leg cut should open outward to follow the shape of your thigh, not sit straight across it. This single feature makes more difference than almost anything else. When the opening is shaped correctly, fabric stops fighting your body and just sits.
A waistband with real structure
Look for internal elastic, fold-over construction, or enough fabric depth that the waistband has something to grip. High-waist styles tend to work better for most people with thick thighs — the contact point is higher up the torso where there's less downward pull from the thighs, so the short stays put.
Fabric with snap
You want stretch, but stretch that comes back. Good recovery fabric stays where you put it through an entire session of climbing, inverting, and floorwork. Poor recovery fabric stretches out and keeps going.
Room in the seat
Pole requires full range of motion. If the shorts feel tight across the back while you're standing still, they'll restrict you the moment you move. When you're between sizes, size by thigh measurement rather than waist — a short that's slightly loose at the waist is manageable; one that's too narrow in the thigh is uncomfortable for the whole class.

Which RARR Styles Actually Work
Hamilton — our first recommendation for thick thighs
Hamilton is built to stay. The waistband sits high and holds without any maintenance during a session. The fabric is thick, supportive, and has excellent recovery. It's not the skimpiest option in the range — but if you want something completely reliable that lets you focus on the class instead of your clothes, Hamilton delivers every time.
It's a favourite across the community for exactly this reason: Fresh Start Frankie reaches for it because it feels safe and supportive when she's still building confidence. Powerhouse Peta wears it through hard training sessions because it handles everything she throws at it.
Yasmin — for when you want the fuller leg
Yasmin is cut higher in the leg and has a more dramatic silhouette. It holds well — but it's a firmer-fitting short, so if you're between sizes, size up rather than down. When it fits right, Yasmin is the short that makes you feel like a performer. It's cut to show off, and it does exactly that.
Sasha Mid-Waist Garter Short — the unexpected one
Here's one that surprises people. The garter strap sits above the short itself, which means it takes on most of the job of keeping everything in place. The short doesn't need to do it alone — the strap does the holding. The result is that nothing rolls, nothing falls, and you're left with a silhouette that works particularly well for thick thighs: the strap draws the eye up and creates definition at the waist while the short sits lower. Multiple customers with thick thighs have told us this is the most secure fit they've found.
Maddox — for serious training sessions
Maddox is the training short. Built for durability over sessions where you're drilling the same move forty times. Less sparkle, more resilience. If you teach, if you train frequently, or if you just need something that survives heavy use — Maddox is the one to have in rotation.
Felix — for glitter that actually holds
Felix is a higher-cut performance short with good structure and real recovery. If you want something sparkly for a showcase, a festival, or just because life is short and you should wear the sparkles — Felix stays put through a full performance. A favourite for performers who need to know their costume isn't going to shift mid-routine.
Sizing: The Honest Version
RARR is sized XS–3XL. The size guide includes thigh measurements — use it, especially if you're between sizes.
A few things worth knowing:
- If you're between sizes, size up for shorts. A slightly looser waist is easy to manage. A thigh opening that's too narrow isn't.
- Check the thigh measurement, not just the waist. Most fit problems with thick thighs happen because the waist fit but the thigh didn't — and you don't discover that until you're already committed.
- If you're genuinely unsure, reach out to us. We'd rather help you get the right size the first time.
The Part Nobody Usually Talks About
There's a specific moment when you find something that actually fits. Where you put it on and your posture changes, and you stop adjusting, and you just move. That's what good pole wear is supposed to feel like. Not a compromise. Not the best you could find. Just something that actually works for your body.
If you've spent years thinking your body was the problem — it wasn't. The fit was.
