Your knees are doing a lot. Drops, slides, floor sequences, spin-outs, crawls in heels — every single one of those lands on the same two joints. And while bruises are basically a pole dancer's badge of honour, there's a big difference between the kind that fade by Thursday and the kind that have you icing your knees at midnight.
The right knee pad fixes that. The wrong one either does nothing, or gets in the way of your movement. Here's how to find yours.
Why knee pads actually matter (beyond just the bruises)
A lot of dancers skip knee pads in the beginning because they don't want to look like a beginner, or they think they'll just toughen up. And sure — your knees will adjust. But repeated impact on hard floors without protection can cause inflammation, bursitis, and long-term joint stress that adds up over years of training.
Knee pads aren't just for beginners. Plenty of advanced and professional pole dancers wear them every single class — not because they're not tough enough, but because they're smart enough to know their knees need to last for decades.

How to choose: three questions to ask yourself
1. Am I mostly doing floorwork, pole tricks, or both?
If you're primarily doing floorwork and exotic choreo — slides, drops, floor sequences — you want a pad with good grip so you can control your slides rather than skidding out. Look at our Velcro Grip Gel Dot, Zebra Gel Grip or Vinyl Neoprene styles.
If you're doing mostly pole tricks with some floor transitions — a Basic or Spandex Vinyl is usually enough. You want protection without bulk getting in the way of your climb.
If you're doing both seriously — go for the Gel Dot or Vinyl Neoprene. The gel dot technology grips when you press into it and releases when you flow, so it works for both.
2. Do I want just knee coverage, or knee + shin?
Standard knee pads sit at the kneecap. Our Long styles extend further down the shin — great if you're doing a lot of floorwork that involves shin contact, or if your skin is particularly sensitive. The Long Spandex Vinyl/Mesh and Knit Long styles both give you that extended coverage.
3. What's my experience level?
Beginners — start with the Basic ($45). You're learning impact control, not yet doing the drops and slides that need specialised grip. Once you're training consistently, upgrade to a grippy style.
Regular trainers — the Spandex Vinyl/Mesh or Velcro Gel Dot are the sweet spot. Proper protection, real grip function, won't break the bank.
Advanced and comp-level dancers — the Vinyl Neoprene or Gel Grip Single Strap. Maximum protection for high-repetition training, stage performances, and long rehearsal sessions.
Available in black and beige/nude
Most of our styles come in both black and beige/nude. Nude tones photograph beautifully and are popular for showcases and photoshoots. Black is the everyday classic. If you're building a kit — get one of each.
